$5,000 grant
With 75-odd members, 40% of which are female, and a wide-ranging age group from 17 years-old to 90 years-young, there’s a whole lot more to Bendigo Woodturners than just woodworking!
The club’s main aim within the community is to promote the knowledge and skills of woodturning and allied crafts, such as pyrography, scroll saw, carving, furniture and toy making, while enjoying the fellowship that comes from a common interest. To encourage youth to try out the various disciplines of woodworking and take up the hobby, the club ‘holds hands’ on activities with local Scouts and Venturers. So, no matter the skill level – from professional to just wanting to learn to work with wood – there’s something for everyone at the club, and everyone is welcome.
With a Benefit Bendigo grant, Bendigo Woodturners will purchase a new woodworking Jointer, an essential machine designed for prepping rough, warped and bowed lumber to create a perfectly flat surface on a board’s face, and a straight, square (90O) edge, relative to that face which ensures accurate, seamless edge-to-edge joints.
Bendigonians are sure to have seen committed woodturners at local events across the region, and possibly around Victoria, with club members keeping extremely busy demonstrating the various disciplines of woodworking and selling members’ work.
Here’s where they regularly ‘turn’ up:

- Lost Trades Fair – at Hanging Rock this year on 28 & 29 March
