$2,000 grant

The Old Church on the Hill, supported and auspiced by not-for-profit Neighbourhood Collective Australia, is a welcoming community hub where people gather and connect to learn, cook, share food, garden, dance and much more! This vibrant, volunteer-run community, actively support the inclusion of newly arrived community members and cross-cultural connections.

With a Benefit Bendigo grant, The Old Church Pantry will be supported. To improve how fresh and prepared food is stored in the Pantry funding for a 4-Sided Countertop Display Fridge has been granted, and a portion of funding will also go towards the purchase of fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local micro-businesses and small start-up producers. The purchase of a small hot food display/pie warmer will also enable baked goods to be sold at the Pantry Growers Market on the 1st and 3rd Sunday monthly.

The Pantry is opened from 10am to 1pm on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, and gives community members an opportunity to fill their containers with locally sourced pantry staples at affordable prices. The Old Church Café and Growers Market are in full-swing on the 1st and 3rd Sunday monthly, and a Garden Working Bee welcomes beginners and experienced gardeners on the first Sunday monthly to help plan, plant and care for the community garden.

Along with the above, community members enjoy meals together and can participate in a range of activities and classes weekly, such as playgroup, live music, a family-friendly karate club, yoga, jazz club, craft and creative groups, and much more. Live Music and Events are also an Old Church staple, with various acts booked throughout the year. Since 2013 the Old Church has hosted musicians in conjunction with the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival, providing an intimate, house-gig feel and a relaxed space where artists have an opportunity to perform to attentive and appreciative audiences as part of the four-day event across Bendigo and surrounding towns.
